Sheepskin footwear is: A. Gorgeous. B. Hideous. C. Comfortable. D. Clunky or E. A national uniform. At the very least, you should have selected "E," but the answer probably doesn't matter. The fur-lined boots everyone seems to be wearing are a fashion phenomenon that shows no signs of abating. The king of the hill -- Ugg Australia -- hit the U.S. market like a sledgehammer, and sales started to soar around the turn of the millennium, defying all odds for what should have been just another...

Pamela Anderson is ditching her Ugg boots and is encouraging her fans to do the same. "I feel so guilty for that craze being started around 'Baywatch' days--I used to wear them with my red swimsuit to keep warm--never realizing that they were SKIN!" she wrote on her Web site's. Anderson thought the sheep fur that lined the boots was "shaved kindly," she wrote. "People like to tell me all the time that I started that trend--yikes! Well let's start a new one--do NOT buy Uggs!"

Who says sensible shoes can't be chic? After seasons of teetering atop their Manolos, the style mavens are stepping out in Uggs, the shapeless sheepskin clodhoppers that some might call ugly. First popular here in the early 1980s with the surf set, Uggs have now migrated to the streets. Sarah Jessica Parker, Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon are wearing them to keep warm on cold soundstages, and stylists are tucking jeans into them or pairing them with mini-skirts for a kind of rugged,...

A few years ago when UGG boots became a hit, women everywhere let out a collective sigh of a relief. Finally, trendy winter boots were cozy and comfortable -- something you might safely wear on the snow and ice. The classic UGG might have had its heyday, but the shoe collections for fall and winter are full of similarly comfortable boots. In fact, they feature a little something for everyone, whether you're a comfort queen or can't let go of your summer wedge sandals. Neutrals such as grey and taupe take the...

Having spent time recently in several cities with wide variations in climate, including Chicago, Houston and Miami, I've been surprised at the staying power of Ugg boots as a fashion statement. I'm obviously in the minority, because everywhere I go I see Uggs worked into all kinds of ensembles, but maybe it's time to start evolving the look. Frye boots are making a big comeback. These rugged cowboyish work boots can accommodate thick socks and go with lots of different outfits.

From unambitious surfer origins to global trend to yesterday's Crocs, Uggs have managed to land on their feet by trotting out new, sleeker styles with the same cozy comfort that won over fashionistas in the first place. And now, with a new Ugg Australia store opening on the Gold Coast, women can dip their toes back into the brand that made so many winter days a walk in the park a few years back. Consider the Sandra boots with sheepskin sockliner and high rubber wedge heel,...

Remember Uggs? "Remember Uggs?" you're thinking. "How could we forget them?" Uggs were only the boot to own last winter. Celebrities wore them everywhere. Stores had them on back order. Oprah gave the things to her audience before she'd even heard of a Pontiac G6. "Besides," you're thinking. "Did they ever really go away?" Not completely, although reports of their pending demise are popping up pretty regularly. Any trend that becomes as hot as Uggs, as fast...

June 3 (Reuters) - Shares of Deckers Outdoor Corp, which makes the popular Uggs line of footwear, could jump as much as 40 percent this year as supply costs drop and new retails stores open, according to a report in Barron's weekly financial newspaper. While short sellers, most of whom believe Uggs are a fad that will fade, have recently benefited from a drop in the stock, many shoe retailers say demand continues to be strong, especially in winter months, the...

Will the Minnetonka "Thunderbird" moccasin be the next UGG boot (while the UGG brand moves on to handbags and ponchos)? Nordstrom spokesman John Bailey hazarded that question when he told us that the mocs would be carried at the stores starting this month. Like Dr. Scholl's sandals and Sperry Topsider boat shoes before them, the mocs are returning from fashion exile. "I can remember my best friend wearing a pair of these in pink back in the '80s," Bailey said. For many, alas, it's the first time around.

Pottstown, Pa., school officials say they've heard them all: "Uggs get the boot" … "These boots are made for talking. " Headline writers have been tripping over the podiatric puns since Pottstown Middle School last week announced a classroom ban on "open top boots" — commonly known as the fashionably popular Uggs or Ugg look-alikes — as hiding places for cellphones, food and other contraband. A letter from Principal Gail Cooper posted on the district's...

Daphne Willis' full-length debut, "What to Say," doesn't come out until Feb. 9. Yet when we called the Edgewater resident, we found her in Nashville, already working on songs for her sophomore record. "I'm not wasting any time, really," Willis quips. Hopefully that forward-thinking attitude won't cause anyone to overlook "What to Say," a significantly soulful, Jason Mraz-ish pop record that sounds as if a horn section wandered into a coffee shop and decided to funk things up a bit. Willis, 22, is all about...
